A HUGE celebration of women working in the arts, culture and community is taking place in Southend this weekend, to celebrate International Women’s Day.
Run by the Snapping the Stiletto project, the festival will offer a range of free creative and practical workshops at the Beecroft Gallery in Victoria Avenue, on Saturday March 5, as well as installations and music.
The day starts at 10am with welcome refreshments, followed by talks from speakers from the arts and culture scene as well as Snapping the Stiletto projects, including Rebekah Wallace Brown of Eye of Boudicca, Sophie Parkin, Lu Williams, Hephzi Tagoe, and author Syd Moore.
A range of workshops – free to all adult Essex women – will also take place throughout the day.
In one, participants will use felt and simple embroidery stitches to create textile brooches inspired by Roman face pots infused with the spirit of wild Essex woman Boudica.
In another workshop you can ‘copy and paste with Heidi Sharp’, using images and cuttings to make contemporary collages and a ‘ghost like’ monotypes.
