A WARNING has gone out after a man dressed in black and armed with “a machete” tried to rob a shop and remains at large.
According to eye witnesses, the man tried to rob the Beauty Shop on Bury Road, Tonge Moor at around 9.18pm on Tuesday evening while armed with a machete and dressed “head to toe” in black, wearing a puffa jacket.
Having kicked and pushed the door to gain entry, the man then brandished the large knife at the owner and a customer, who quickly closed the shutters for safety and dialled 999.
The eye witness, who was a customer at the shop at the time, said: “The size of that machete, he was obviously on a mission and he’s not going to stop at just one business.”
She added: “I could see from the CCTV he was looking at other shops nearby, seeing where he could target next.”
The business has been cashless since the onset of the pandemic and as such did not have money on the premises for robbers to steal.
Fortunately the owner and customer were able to remain safely behind the shutters until the man fled empty handed before police…
