NUCLEAR THREAT: Boris Johnson warned in the early hours of this morning that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s actions “could now directly threaten the safety of all of Europe” after shelling by Russian forces caused fires to break out at Europe’s biggest nuclear power station, which provides a quarter of Ukraine’s energy. Ukraine’s emergency services subsequently said the fire had been extinguished. Just as Playbook was hitting your inbox, Ukrainian authorities announced the Russian forces had seized the plant.
Emergency talks: In a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at around 1.30 a.m., the prime minister said he would be seeking an emergency meeting of the U.N.
