A fit and healthy dad who had been given hist first dose of the Covid vaccine ‘thought I was a goner’ after contracting the virus.
Tony Grimes is now warning others not to get complacent after admitting “I did”.
The 47-year-old is in a high dependency unit at Hull Royal after testing positive for Covid just over a week ago. He is now on high flow oxygen and struggling to breathe, Hull Live reports.
He was due his second dose of the vaccine today (July 3).
Tony, a singer with Hull band The Skylarks, said he has no underlying health conditions and played football every week.

“I tested positive for Covid just over a week ago,” he told Hull Live.
“By Sunday I couldn’t breathe properly so we called our nurse friend who assessed me and advised hospital, 111 agreed, and sent an ambulance.
“I thought I was a goner on Sunday and Monday. I just could not breathe shortly after arrival at the hospital, with shortness of breath and coughing. Staff were amazing though. I have since stabilised.”
