Square Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has outlined his philosophy when it comes to designing characters, including why he always makes attractive protagonists.
Along with its role-playing mechanics and bombastic stories, the world of Final Fantasy is equally synonymous with beautifully-designed central characters.
Across Final Fantasy history, characters like Cloud Strife, Squall Leonhart, Tifa Lockhart, and Lightning are all what you’d describe as conventionally attractive, highlighted even more so by the impressive graphics the series is known for.
Most of these characters are the work of designer and producer Tetsuya Nomura, who recently directed both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and its sequel Rebirth. He’s also known as the creator of the Kingdom Hearts series, which shares a similar design aesthetic in regards to its characters (Disney crossovers aside).
