DELIGHTED Sol Smith-Ryan got his Christmas wish to play the drums — after his dad adapted his bionic arm.
Sol, six, was able to clip his drumstick into place thanks to ingenious Ben Ryan, 44, who created a 3D-printed accessory.
It means he can now play his new drum kit with both arms. Ben designed the gadget after vowing to create a life as full as possible for his son, who had his left arm amputated at just ten days old following a traumatic birth.
The 3D-printed attachment fits on to the end of Sol’s prosthetic arm and is engineered for the drum stick to clip in place on it.
Sol is now determined to follow in the footsteps of one of his heros — Def Leppard’s one-armed drummer Rick Allen, 58, who plays his kit using foot pedals.
