Football players being diagnosed with dementia later in life has hit the headlines again this week with Denis Law and Terry McDermott being the latest to reveal they are suffering from the condition.
That prompted a couple of calls away from the usual Hotline issues with James Forsyth, Bellshill, saying: “Isn’t it about time football looked at making it illegal to head the ball outside of the penalty boxes? This will still allow for crosses into the box.”
And Dr Robert Pender added: “In the studies on the causes of dementia linked to heading a ball, heavy drinking of alcohol was not put into the equation. In 60-80’s drink culture with players was a severe problem. Heavy drinking is known to cause brain damage. Today’s players are a lot wiser.”
Elsewhere, Celtic fans continue to be happy with their team on the back of their latest 6-0 demolition of St Mirren.
