Dog walking has been banned on a popular sports ground in Groombridge because of a persistent problem with owners failing to clean up dog mess and discarding scores of “poop bags”.
The ban at the ground at the Tanyard in Corseley Road will take effect from Saturday (May 1).
Many groups and clubs use the ground, including local school pupils and scouts.
It came as the Groombridge Sports Ground Association revealed a recent clear-up found a staggering 31 abandoned dog mess bags and 12 piles of dog dirt on or around the football pitches.
The move by the association’s management committee follows its year-long efforts to drive home the message to dog owners, with help from Wealden District Council.
The council, using its powers under its Public Spaces Protection Order, put up signs stating dogs must be kept on leads and their mess taken away.
