An East Yorkshire woman is so dedicated to saving hedgehogs she even has “houses” for them in her garden.
It all started when Emma Clarke, 46, saw one in her Hessle garden in December 2019.
She posted a picture of the hedgehog on her dog, Riley’s, Instagram page and was told by one women that it was “unusual” for them to be out during winter.
She was advised to make a feeding station out of a plastic tub and leave some cat biscuit in it.
She then purchased a hedgehog house online so they had a “safe place to sleep”.
She has now helped ten hedgehogs, although sadly two of them have passed away.

“In October 2020, I found two autumn juvenile hedgehogs in my garden,” Miss Clarke said. “These are from a second late litter and most of them don’t survive winter as they are far too small and underweight to be able to hibernate successfully.
“I took them in to over winter them. Basically fatten them up for release in spring. Sadly one of them passed away…
