There are fears Spain and Greece could be added to the new “amber-plus” list, bringing back quarantine for fully vaccinated travellers.
As of Monday 19 July, UK residents arriving back from amber-list destinations can avoid self-isolating if they received their second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine at least 14 days prior.
However, last week a new “amber-plus” category was created, with France immediately being placed on it.
The decision came due to concerns about growing numbers of cases of the Beta variant, first discovered in South Africa.
The move has been heavily criticised by the travel industry, but that may not stop the Government adding more destinations to the list.
What is the ‘amber-plus’ list?
UK travellers arriving back from “amber-plus” countries must quarantine for up to 10 days, regardless of their vaccination status.
They must also take a PCR test on or before day two of their arrival, and another on day eight.
Double-jabbed people can take an additional test on day five, and leave quarantine early if the result is negative.
