Builders are reporting booming order books with Wales leading the way in the UK but there are warnings over a hike in the cost of materials.
Workloads, enquiries and employment all grew in the period January to March 2021, with enquiries growing at their fastest pace in more than 10 years.
Activity in all sectors grew, but repair, maintenance and improvement saw the strongest performance with 55% of respondents reporting increased workloads.
Findings indicate that workloads and enquiries for builders in Wales outperformed the rest of the home nations, and rose at a faster pace than in Q4 2020.
While those figures are all positive there are concerns over hiring and the costs of materials – with Covid and non-tariff barriers after Brexit among the factors pushing up prices and hitting availability.
Owain Williams, from Williams Homes, Bala, said business is booming and work is “coming like hell”.
He added: “We currently have a huge order book.”
