Defiant UK tourists have stood firm amid Balearic Islands and Canary Islands protests, it has emerged. The Canary Islands are bracing for a busy summer of tourism, according to the Canary Islands Statistics Institute – with most visitors expected to come from the UK.
The move comes as protests and demonstrations sweep the European Union holiday hotspot. Responding to the protests, one Brit sniped: “Their argument is flawed. Living costs including rents and mortgages are sky-rocketing EVERYWHERE – not just in tourist locations.
“Reducing the number of tourists will ultimately only have ONE outcome – a drop in the income of the islands – and that will result in businesses going broke, hotel staff being laid off, a reduction in tourist-related businesses such as taxi drivers, food and drink supply chains, cottage industries such as local crafts sales… the list goes on.
