Ten new trees are to be planted for every Lanarkshire resident over the next decade as part of a project to create a regional “urban forest” in an effort to tackle climate change.
It forms part of the new Clyde Climate Forest project and will see 18 million trees planted across the eight council areas that make up the Glasgow city region, increasing its woodland cover from 17 per cent to 20 per cent.
Planting will take place in “areas of deprivation, former coal-mining sites, vacant and derelict land, urban streets and other civic places” – and residents, community groups and landowners are being invited to suggest suitable locations.
