Ten of Swansea’s 14 maintained secondary schools received more applications than they have places to start in September.
Olchfa School was the most oversubscribed with 439 applications for 289 places, all of which have been allocated.
Bishop Gore received 344 applications for its 240 places.
The council has used special powers to allow Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive and Ysgol Gyfun Gwyr to give places to more children than their admission number.
Not all places to start year seven in September have yet been allocated, but of those getting applications in on time stating their first, second or third choice 98.51% got a place at their first choice school, Swansea Council said.
Some schools, including Olchfa and Gowerton have allocated all their places.
More than 700 of those getting their applications in on time still don’t have an allocated place. This may be because they have not yet accepted the offers they have had.
A Swansea Council spokesperson said: “In Swansea 98.51% of on-time applications for Year Seven places secured their first preference place.
