Drive five minutes off junction 7 of the busy M56 motorway and you will venture into a village untouched by Greater Manchester’s urban sprawl.
Dunham Town, part of the historic Dunham Massey estate, is still mostly owned by the National Trust, and as such the land and properties all around this rural area have remained unchanged for over 200 years.
Indeed, most of the homes and farms in Dunham village remain in the ownership of the National Trust and are leased out to their tenants – you can spot which are owned by the trust by the distinctive bright “Dunham red” paint that adorns the drainpipes, guttering and front doors.

But while the properties may be frozen in time, the people who live here are part of a creative boom with a host of independent family businesses now springing from the traditional farming background of this intriguing area on the outer edge of Trafford.
