A Gateshead secondary school choir has been victorious in a regional competition, taking on talented pupils from across the North East.
Cardinal Hume Catholic School Choir, made up of students aged 11 to 18, won in the secondary school category of a regional competition held on Tuesday (8 February).
The North East Secondary Choir of the Year event was held as part of the popular Durham Vocal Festival, which has returned for 2022 to celebrate vocal music and showcase regional talent.
Durham Vocal Festival streamed the competition online so that schools, parents and supporters could watch live as the 5 competing choirs performed.
Supported by the Gateshead Music Service, which has helped to navigate COVID safe rehearsals and provide additional lessons, the choir is an established and popular extracurricular activity for students at Cardinal Hume.
Winners of the contest will be awarded with a trophy and the opportunity to perform at the annual North East Festival of Youth Choirs event, which will be held at Durham Cathedral on Saturday 14 May.
