Prince William, just four at the time, was heading to his first day of school in 1987 when his mother gave him memorable advice which would stay with him for the rest of his life. Before exiting the car and bravely facing the photographers waiting for the royals, the Princess of Wales told William to “behave”.
“Diana said to him in the car, ‘when you get to school there are going to be lots of media and lots of photographers, you’ve got to behave yourself’,” Ken Wharfe, William and Harry’s former bodyguard, told Yahoo’s Royal Box.
“You’re going to get this for the rest of your life.”
While Diana’s wise words may not have registered just yet, the young prince gave the princess a cheeky reply.
The four-year-old said: “Don’t like ‘tographers’.”
