Confused cops were called to break up an exorcism in the timber aisle of a busy Home Depot store.
Police in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, were asked to assist after a number of people were reported to be acting suspiciously.
The group performed the ceremony for the trees that had been turned into lumber, local reports state.
Staff at the Commerce Drive outlet in Dickson City were bewildered by what was going on and soon called for back-up.
Officers turned up at the home-improvement store and escorted several people out for “bad behaviour”.
One cop told The Voice : “It was a séance type of thing for the dead.
“There were people hanging out in the lumber department doing their little exorcism thing.
“Some people at the store started picking up that something was happening that was not necessarily normal. Police were called to the store and they were escorted out of the building.”
Local reports say there is no suggestion the gathering was a protest at the price of the wood.
