Rabbit rescues and local campaigners have rallied together to raise awareness of rabbit dumping in Huddersfield, as the town continues to record a record number of abandoned animals.
Nationwide there has been a massive increase in the number of rabbits being dumped, with the RSPCA reporting 2,528 complaints of dumped small pets and rabbits, from the start of the pandemic in 2020.
But in recent months, Huddersfield in particular has been hit with a spate of the cruel and unlawful act, with many rabbits dumped at the side of the road, or abandoned in locations where they can’t possible survive.

Vicky Newham is just one of the dedicated campaigners hoping to raise awareness of this growing problem, she said: “Nationwide there is a massive issue with rabbits being dumped recently in Huddersfield we have seen many more cases.”
