A dog owner whose pet mauled an innocent man has been sentenced after the horrifying attack was caught on camera.
Thair Iqbal appeared in court after his pet, a Bullmastiff breed, attacked the man on a busy road in Handsworth, Sheffield, sinking its teeth into his upper arm and dragging him into the road. The victim, a 39-year-old man, also suffered chest wounds in the traumatic attack on September 19 as he walked along the pavement with his partner and their own pet.
Sheffield magistrates court heard how Iqbal’s dog had broken free from his home, jumping over insecure fencing and going for the man just yards from a nursery. Footage showed him wrestle with the hound as it latched itself onto him before a passing car pulled up, distracting the animal before it ran off, chasing the couple’s dog.
