Plans for the future use of one of the biggest empty shops in Derbyshire say it will be split into three separate stores with one already taken.
The former Debenhams store on Ravenside Retail Park, in Chesterfield, was built for the department chain back in 2012, replacing the former building which was used by home improvement company Homebase.
However, in January 2021 Debenhams confirmed that they would be closing down, at a cost of around 12,000 jobs and shutting the doors on their Chesterfield branch.
Since then the unit, which has a large car park attached to it and has a mezzanine floor inside, has sat empty.
Now planning application documents submitted to Chesterfield Borough Council show that the unit will be split into three separate shops with part of the mezzanine floor being removed.
As part of the documents, one of the new shops is to be taken by a “retailer, which has a requirement to sell food products”.
However, the actual name of the company has not been revealed.
