A mum was left mortified after buying her son a Worry Monster to get him to open up – only for it to ‘backfire spectacularly’ when he penned a note saying his main concern was that the soft toy would ‘come to life and eat him’.
Nerys Beames had noticed little Aled, six, had been anxious about starting a new school year in September and spotted he was a little quieter than usual.
The 41-year-old had seen ideas online for ways to get children to open up about their worries and decided to buy the Worry Monster for £12 online.
The dental nurse then explained that Aled could write down his worries and feed them to the blue and orange toy, who would then eat them – supposedly leaving him concern-free.
But as she snuck into the tot’s room to empty the cute creature and read Aled’s worries, her plan fell through as she found he had written a note saying: “I am worried if you will come to life and eat me”.
