he boss of Westfield shopping centre in London’s White City said she will continue to ask customers to wear face masks after July 19.
Jacinta Rowsell said: “We are very aware and very focused on the fact that guests coming to the centre do want to feel safe. They’re our priority as retailers, and our staff, so where possible we would be encouraging the wearing of masks when people are coming into the centre.”
Individual stores in the mall will be able to set their own policy on masks, she said, and masks would be “actively encouraged” rather than compulsory for people wishing to come in.
Business leaders were feeling their way into how to handle the great masks dilemma when the current rules mandating face coverings in shops and public transport are lifted this month.
London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan put off a decision pending talks on whether to impose a masks rule on passengers using Transport for London services, which include the London Underground, buses and Overground lines.
