LORRY drivers and plumbers are among Brits working surprisingly high-paying jobs – raking in as much as £150,000 a year.
Waitrose lorry drivers are being offered up to £53,780 a year by the supermarket chain.
The offers mean drivers will be earning more than staff at parent company John Lewis Partnership’s head office – including two senior executive roles being advertised at £45,000 a year.
Waitrose offered the payment to try and tackle a shortfall of 90,000 drivers.
The shortfall has led to McDonald’s running out of milkshake supplies and some stores unable to stock beer.
The crisis has been caused by a combination of factors, including the Covid-19 pandemic and complications related to Brexit.
Waitrose said lorry driver salaries have risen by 15 per cent – or £7,000 – in the past year-and-a-half.
James Clifford, boss of driver trainers HGTV, said new recruits could make up to £60,000 a year.
