And they’ve become a popular way of marking special occasions with family and friends.
But spas have been forced to close for the majority of the past year as part of lockdown rules against coronavirus.
The government has deemed the beauty and wellbeing establishments too high-risk, however hope is in sight for a pamper day within the next few months.
As part of the government’s lockdown roadmap to normality, spas have been given the go-ahead to reopen in phases.
Here, we take a look at what the rules state:
When can spas open?
As part of Step 2 of the roadmap, no earlier than April 12, a number of indoor businesses can reopen.
This includes non-essential retail and personal care premises, including hairdressers, salons and close contact services.
Indoor leisure facilities such as gyms and indoor swimming pools can also reopen, and this includes spas.
The guidance states that these premises should only be visited alone or as household groups.
