his summer, celebrated Marylebone restaurant Jikoni is set to become the first independent restaurant in the country to go carbon-neutral.
The restaurant says it will achieve its goal by June 30, with founder Ravinder Bhogal hosting a celebratory dinner on June 27 to mark the change.
The evening will feature a panel with four fashion entrepreneurs pushing for change in their industry. Broadcaster Mimma Viglezio will host a conversation between Lauren Grant of London-based shirtmaker SARK; Alighieri Jewellery designer and founder Rosh Mahtani; Anna Foster of zero-waste jean-makers ELV Denim; and Eshita Kabra, who created By Rotation, the app that lets its users rent clothes.
For restaurant-lovers, though, the news of Jikoni lowering its carbon emissions will matter most. While its not the first restaurant to attempt it – the Wahaca group has already been certified carbon neutral, while upmarket steakhouse chain Gaucho hope to be carbon-neutral by the end of next year – the move is a heartening one for an industry increasingly paying attention to sustainability, zero-waste and…
