A mum who suffered two traumatic births and terrifying postnatal psychosis has used her difficult experiences to become a gentle baby sleep coach.
Emily Whalley struggled with her mental health after each of her sons, Arthur, five, and 23-month-old Henry, were delivered by emergency caesarean – before going on to have worrying health problems.
Arthur spent his first Christmas in hospital with bronchitis which scarred his lungs.
While Henry was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) after his premature birth and diagnosed with ichthyosis – a genetic disorder causing thick, dry and scaly skin.
Now Emily, 31, is using all she has learned from these tough experiences to run her own business, Fox and The Moon Infant Sleep Services.
“Talking about maternal mental health is really important and if sharing my story can help other mothers, it will be worth it,” she says.
Emily, from High Peak, Derbyshire, was tortured by intrusive thoughts and visions of waking up to see Arthur dead in his cot after his birth.
