The Powell-Cotton Museum is part of an international art project that connects two very distinct cultures and artistic disciplines.
Hong Kong ceramicists Annie Wan and Lau Yat Wai have been working with UK sound artists Emily Peasgood and Dan Thompson, exploring the legacy of the Thanet museum’s colonial-era collection.
The museum in Quex Park, Birchington, has partnered with The Ceramic House, Brighton, for a residency and exhibition called No Interdependent Origins.
The timely collaboration comes as the Powell-Cotton is in the process of decolonising its collection.
The artists have been working together, remotely, to create site-specific works for the historic house and open up new ways of reading familiar objects and settings.
This is the first time that the museum has engaged with contemporary artists in this way.
