A head who promised to bring stability to a failing school which had nine headteachers in 10 years has announced he’s leaving.
It was in September 2019 when Dan Wright took over at St Anne’s RC Voluntary Academy, in Stockport – a place dubbed ‘the forgotten school’ due to the high turnaround of heads.
At the beginning of last year a scathing inspection report from Ofsted deemed the school inadequate in all areas and highlighted a number of concerns including a poor curriculum, ‘significant’ weaknesses in safeguarding and low attendance.
Pupils told inspectors that fights were not uncommon, homophobic language was frequently used, and there had been incidents of racist behaviour and bullying that was not always dealt with well.
The report levied damning criticism towards school leaders, governors, the Salford Diocese and Stockport council for not ‘acting with the required urgency’ to address the school’s ‘significant failings’.
It did, however, add that the appointment of headteacher Mr Wright had brought ‘new hope to…
