Greece’s Tourism Minister, Harry Theoharis, has called on the United Kingdom’s authorities not to put the country in the UK’s amber category for travelling, claiming that “Greece is a safe state” for tourists.
British holidaymakers are hesitating to travel abroad since the quarantine rules on their way back home can change even for vaccinated travellers due to a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
Nearly 2,700 positive cases with Coronavirus were reported in Greece last week, recording a sevenfold increase over the past three weeks.
However, Greece’s 14-day positive cases rate per 100,000 citizens is at 167 compared to the UK’s rate of 440.
According to the former Greek Tourism Minister, Harry Theorharis, the country should remain on the amber list.
“Greece is a safe country. The vaccination drive and programme continues unabated,” Theorharis said, noting that nearly 60 per cent of the population has been vaccinated.
