Getting children to catch-up on learning lost to the pandemic will take up to three years, the chief inspector of Ofsted has warned.
Amanda Spielman said it would be impossible to “shoehorn everything into the remaining time” for all students.

Young people have had their schooling severely disrupted since the coronavirus pandemic struck last year.
In England, schools were closed for a majority of children between March and September 2020. Many children were forced to self-isolate during the autumn term, and schools were then closed for a second time from 5 January until 8 March 2021.
In an interview with i, Ms Spielman said that providing catch-up would be the work of years.
