A series of celebrations have been marking the centenary of the birth of a Belfast-born author, with the aim of getting the public to know a little more about the greatly under-appreciated writer.
Paradosso Theatre are making the 100th anniversary of Brian Moore’s birth year through Lonely Passions: The Brian Moore Centenary Festival, which takes place until Wednesday, August 25 – ending on the centenary of his birth.
Born in Belfast on August 25, 1921, Brian Moore was one of the most prolific authors to come out of the city.
A prize-winning and three times Booker Prize nominee, he wrote over 20 novels, including The Emperor Of Ice Cream, The Luck Of Ginger Coffey, The Doctor’s Wife, and The Colour Of Blood amongst others.
Funding from Arts Council Northern Ireland has allowed events to be carried out throughout the city, with a walking tour of Brian Moore’s childhood locations and featured spots from his novels traversing North to South, films in East Belfast, documentaries shown in Central Belfast, and of course, festivities held online.
