The People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals, or the PDSA, is the UK’s leading veterinary charity.
The dedicated teams at 48 Pet Hospitals work tirelessly to provide 2.7million veterinary treatments, including 440,000 preventative treatments, on an annual basis.
As its website states: “This helps over 470,000 much-loved pets and brings peace of mind to 300,000 owners.”

The PDSA was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin CBE who worked to improve the dreadful state of animal health in the Whitechapel area of London during World War I.
When she went to visit the poor in London’s East End, she was horrified by the terrible poverty she witnessed, especially the sick and injured pets who were in desperate need of veterinary care but whose owners couldn’t afford to pay for treatment.
There are three clear values that the PDSA adopts: Head and Heart – Expertise with understanding, Better together – Empowering through unity, and Passion with Purpose – Driven in our dedication.
