A dad is facing leaving his young children as the Home Office tries to deport him over a non-violent crime he committed eight years ago.
Using the pseudonym Pet Davies to protect his identity, the 31-year-old described a gruelling seven year battle to avoid deportation to his native Zimbabwe, a country he left aged 14 and which he no longer knows.
Having settled in Liverpool after a few years in London, Pet made a catastrophic mistake in 2013 when he began stealing money from his employer – an offence he accepts “there is absolutely no excuse for”.

Pet pleaded guilty and served seven months in prison – but was horrified to realise the offence meant his Visa would be revoked.
Around a fortnight ago he was taken into detention and was earmarked for a repatriation flight due to leave tonight – before his lawyer managed to get him a last minute deferral and a faint glimmer of hope.
