An expert has revealed how to protect your garden hose in the winter, as the Met Office confirm yet more weather alerts for Scotland.
In the colder temperatures, water inside the hosepipe will freeze and expand which can cause the hose rubber to crack. In the long run, this can lead to splits in the rubber lining causing the hose to burst and flood.
With the UK experiencing freezing temperatures, Rhiannon Moore at Toolstation, has shared five steps to help protect your garden hosepipe from damage.
Read on below to find out how to protect your hosepipe in the winter.
Five tips to protect your hosepipe in colder weather
1 – Turn off the water
Make sure to turn off the outdoor tap and disconnect the hose.
It’s also best to turn off your outdoor water supply using the isolator valve and let all of the water drain out of the tap and pipe.
2 – Drain the nozzle
Drain any leftover water from the plastic spray nozzle at the end of the hose before removing it. Also make sure to remove any non-return valves attached to the end of the hose.
