East Molesey CC celebrate their title triumph
It wasn’t quite the way Dominic Reed and his East Molesey players wanted to win the Surrey Championship Premier Division but the skipper admitted, “we are pleased to just get over the line and get it finished”.
The club made it back-to-back titles – having won it in 2019 before the Covid-19 hit 2020 campaign – when they were awarded the six points they needed on Saturday after a cancellation at Esher because of rain.
Reed’s side have managed their triumph with two games to spare, having missed the opportunity the week before to wrap up proceedings when they lost at Sunbury who are not only the one team to beat them this season, they have done it twice.
“We wanted to beat Sunbury and win it there,” admitted Reed. “We tried but they were better than us on the day. So it went to the following week and the rain got in the way [on Saturday] but to be honest, it got to the point where we were just pleased to get over the line and get it finished.
