Volunteers from Dunbar’s Royal National Lifeboat Institution rushed to East Lothian last night after a paddleboarder became caught in a rip current.
At around 8.30 pm on Thursday the inshore lifeboat raced to Belhaven Bay after the paddleboarder came off their board near the mouth of Biel Water.
The struggling paddleboarder managed to get to shore and alert the coastguard about what had happened and after an extensive search of the water, the board was located and returned to the local.
ILB helm Alan Blair said: “The paddleboarder did the right thing by getting to shore and alerting the coastguard that the board was adrift and might cause concern if found washed up or unattended.
“We would advise that stand-up paddleboard users wear a leash to avoid being separated from their boards if they have an accident.”
