A drunk has been fined after he spat on an unvaccinated female officer at a coastal beauty spot.
Police were called to Cullercoats Bay after convicted robber David Fenwick was seen standing on the wrong side of railings overlooking the sea while drinking from a glass bottle.
The 45-year-old, who was “anti-police”, refused to engage with officers and a fire crew were forced to step in and tempt him back to safety.

A court heard that, once back on the beach, Fenwick turned aggressive and was arrested for being drunk and disorderly.
However, while being detained, Fenwick, who was on licence from prison at the time, spat on a female police officer, hitting her on the leg.
Now, the crook, of Vern Road, in North Shields, has been fined £200 after he admitted one count each of being drunk and disorderly and assaulting an emergency worker at North Tyneside Magistrates’ Court.
