A dad who shook his 11-week-old baby to death and left the boy’s twin with irreversible brain damage will spend at least the next 23 years behind bars.
Chicken factory worker Haroldas Bugaila, 29, assaulted baby Martynas on the afternoon of March 27, 2019 as he was left to look after him at the family home in Granville Street, Boston.
Lincoln Crown Court heard that just minutes before, Bugaila and his partner Aliona had rowed after she took his mobile phone from him because he was playing games on it and not concentrating on looking after the child.
After violently shaking the vulnerable tot, Bugaila shouted to Aliona, the children’s mum: “Come. There’s something wrong.”
Aliona ran upstairs to find Martynas on his back in his cot, looking completely white, with eyes closed and not breathing.
She tried to revive the boy before taking him to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, leaving the other twin in Bugaila’s care.
The police rushed to the house at 6pm, by which time Bugaila had assaulted Martynas’s twin brother, causing him brain damage.
