A man was tragically found dead in a campervan at a beauty spot. Police were called out to a lay-by in the Staffordshire Moorlands after a campervan had been spotted parked up for a week.
Staffordshire Police were called to the vehicle on the A53 lay-by, near The Winking Man, just south of Buxton, on Monday, January 8. Officers sadly found the body of Matthew Britland inside. Mr Britland, from Cheshire, had not been reported missing.
StokeonTrentLive reports PC Hannah Kenny, who attended the scene, told a Stoke inquest into the 41-year-old’s death: “We were alerted that there were concerns for a white Mercedes campervan that had been parked in a lay-by on the A53, near The Winking Man, for about one week. The van was locked and registered to the address of Sandra Britland, Matthew’s mother.
“I banged on the exterior but there was no answer and the doors were locked. The windows were tinted and there were curtains or blankets blocking the view on the inside. Under Section 17, I decided to use forced entry and smashed one of the windows of the van.
