A part of Crewe has been branded a drugs and crime hotspot as plans for a new children’s home in the area were slammed.
The comments were made by town councillors in response to a proposal to convert a 10-person house of multiple occupation (HMO) on Nantwich Road into a care home for vulnerable children.
The planning application has been submitted to Cheshire East Council by Helpful Investments and cites the ‘critical need for increased provision of children’s social care accommodation’.

But despite accepting that there was a need for ‘high quality and appropriate’ accommodation for vulnerable young children, Crewe Town Council objected to the proposal due to concerns about the current rate of crime in the area.
Cllr Marilyn Houston said during the recent meeting of the town council’s planning committee: “I am absolutely appalled that they are even considering placing what they describe as vulnerable young people on that Nantwich Road area.
