The UK Government has implemented a red, amber and green list for foreign travel from England. For red list countries, UK citizens living in England have been told they “should not travel to these countries or territories”. The amber list means that citizens travelling from England must take one pre-departure test and quarantine when they return to the UK for 10 days.
For countries on the UK’s green list, on arrival back in England, travellers must take a COVID-19 test on or before day 2 after they arrive and they do not need to quarantine unless the test result is positive.
German media outlet Bild has focussed on the fact that some countries on the amber list have incidents of coronavirus that are much lower than the current rates within the UK.
The tabloid proudly stated that because of the UK’s tough travel restrictions, “envy of us Germans is rising on the island”.
The German news site added that the reason for this jealousy was because of “tough quarantine rules in Great Britain”.
