UK Covid-19 vaccinations: Latest figures
Coronavirus cases are doubling every 11 days in England in a surge being driven by young people and unvaccinated groups, a new study has revealed.
Scientists found that infections have increased “exponentially” between 3 May and 7 June as the country struggles to combat the Delta variant, which originated in India.
Imperial College London’s React study showed that most of the new infections are among young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 and in children between five and 12. Few in these groups will have received a vaccine.
It comes as ministers reportedly consider plans to allow Britons who have been fully vaccinated to bypass quarantine when they return to the UK. The Daily Telegraph reported that testing would still be required, however.
