Community leaders in Burton say they have been left saddened and upset after the news that a woman’s body was found at the Washlands in Burton.
Burton’s MP and a county councillor for the area where speaking after police launched an investigation into the unnamed woman’s death as a man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
MP Kate Griffiths and Councillor Arshad Afsar have spoken after the body of a woman was found at the River Trent beauty spot, close to the town centre shopping area, behind Burton Library, in the early morning of Friday, July 2.
Yesterday, Saturday, July 3, the scene was being combed by forensic officers with two blue tents having been set up close to a small wooded area near the playground at the popular spot.

On Friday police revealed that a 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the woman’s death, with officers urging the public not to speculate over the circumstances surrounding the incident.
