THE ARTS Minister said he was delighted to see Coventry people ‘fizzing with so much energy and enthusiasm’ when he visited the UK City of Culture on Thursday.
Lord Parkinson was present at the unveiling of The Show Windows: Reflections exhibition which featured art from the British Museum collection chosen by citizens.
He said: “It’s nice to see which pieces had been selected by people and young people from Coventry – it gives a good insight into what is important to them.”
Later that evening, he also attended a VIP reception and world premiere of Ghost in the Ruins, a new commission presented by Coventry Cathedral and the City of Culture trust to mark the 60th anniversary of the cathedral’s consecration.
Lord Parkinson added: “It’s brilliant the way the City of Culture has brought people together and back into the city centre to spend money and help local businesses.”
He added arts and culture played an important part in recovery and regeneration after the Covid restrictions and lockdowns of the last 20 months.
