A care home which looks after residents with dementia and similar illnesses has been given a one-star food hygiene rating.
Parkville Care Centre in the Newport area of Middlesbrough received a ‘good’ rating in its last Care Quality Commission report.
However, an inspection by an officer from the Food Standards Agency in October found that ‘major improvement’ was necessary in the management of food safety.

A spokesman for the care home said they are confident that subsequent additional staff training and improvements will be reflected in a reinspection in January.
The report said: “It was apparent during the visit that the level of food hygiene awareness demonstrated by the persons managing the business was inadequate.
“Suitable food safety management procedures were not in place to protect foods from risks of contamination.
