The changing tastes of Britain’s motorists have been revealed in a new survey of the top-selling marques.
When asked ‘which is the coolest car brand,’ Tesla topped the poll with 24.2%, ahead of Mercedes (22.4%) and Mini (13.8%).
According to the SMMT, electric vehicle sales doubled in March over the same period last year, and the Tesla Model 3 was the fourth best selling car in the country with 6,585 models sold in the UK. It followed a record-breaking quarter for Tesla, which saw billionaire Elon Musk’s company deliver 184,800 electric cars to customers worldwide in the first quarter of 2021.
BMW claimed the fourth spot in the survey with 13.3% ahead of Volkswagen (11%), Ford (8%), Vauxhall (6%) and Toyota (5.%). Nissan came bottom of the poll with only 3% of votes despite its popular Qashqai proving the fifth best selling car in the country in March.
