The Telegraph has compiled a list of the best independent garden centres to visit this spring.
One in Essex made the list, with “trail-blazing gardens”, a “bustling café” and “excellent service”.
While “big chain stores are struggling”, The Telegraph said, “destination nurseries remain an appealing place to shop, learn and dine”.

Beth Chatto’s one of the best independent garden centres
Beth Chatto’s Plants and Gardens in Elmstead, near Colchester, was the only one in the county on the list.
This huge garden was originally created by the famous gardener Beth Chatto OBE VMH in 1960.
Now a spot with National Heritage Grade II listing, it has a plant nursery that produces thousands of plants each year.
