It has unveiled a Canupak bottle manufactured from recycled HDPE and it is claimed that the pack uses around 71% less carbon consumption than with comparable packaging types. Alpla said that the total weight of the bottle and cap is 14 grams.
According to Alpla, the carbon footprint was calculated in cooperation with ClimatePartner. The product carbon footprint (PCF) comprises all the emissions throughout a product’s lifecycle, including its disposal.
Alpla added that the areas of package contents, retail and use phase were not taken into account as “these are not relevant to the climate impacts of packaging”. The company also said that “as no clear standards currently exist for climate-neutral products and offsetting certificates, Alpla is focusing on reducing emissions within its own sphere of influence”.
