The University of Birmingham is joining a national celebration to mark the launch of the initial wave of 12 Institutes of Technology.
The University is a partner in the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology (GSBIoT), supporting the ambition to address regional skills gaps in engineering and advanced manufacturing.
Deputy Pro-Vice Chancellor (Strategic Projects), Professor Jon Rowe is on the GSBIoT Board of Directors, he said: “I’m proud that the University is able to lend our expertise to the Greater Birmingham and Solihull Institute of Technology. It is a great opportunity for further and higher education providers to collaborate in providing high quality education and helping students find fulfilling jobs.”
Institutes of Technology specialise in delivering higher technical education, focusing on the specific skills required in the local area. They will provide employers with a skilled workforce and students with a clear route to technical employment. By bridging skills gaps, these new institutes will drive growth and widen opportunity.
